Useful answers start with clear assumptions and traceable sources. This is how ev.guru works.

What our calculator measures

The calculator estimates annual charging electricity costs from the values you enter. It does not estimate the total cost of owning a car. All prefilled prices and consumption figures are editable examples, not verified market averages.

Annual energy = distance × consumption ÷ 100 ÷ efficiency

Efficiency is applied only to battery-side consumption. If consumption is measured at the electricity meter, losses are already included and are not added again. Distance and consumption use the same unit: miles with kWh/100 miles in the US, kilometers with kWh/100 km in Germany and Austria.

We split this energy between home and public charging, multiply by the respective price, and add twelve monthly subscription fees. Outputs are rounded for display; calculations retain full precision. Parking, idle fees, installation, vehicle costs and taxes not included in your inputs are excluded.

A worked example

Assumptions: 10,000 miles, 20 kWh/100 miles measured at the meter, half home charging at $0.30/kWh and half public charging at $0.50/kWh, plus $5 a month. The annual result is $860: $300 at home, $500 in public and $60 in subscriptions. These are fictional inputs demonstrating the formula.

Provider selection and prices

Our provider overview is a selected directory, not a complete market survey or a cheapest-provider ranking. It compares access and fee structures. Where prices depend on location, time or membership, we link to the official provider instead of publishing a fictional national price. Check the displayed price immediately before charging.

Sources, updates and AI assistance

Guides link to primary sources and show the date of the editorial review. The initial guides were prepared with AI assistance; they are not personal driving tests. A reachable source does not by itself confirm that prices are unchanged. Substantive content and tariff changes require a documented editorial check.
