What Volkswagen announced
On September 14, Volkswagen presented Mission Efficiency, a concept car that it says is not for sale. Its technical briefing reports a drive from Wolfsburg to Vienna with energy consumption of 7.51 kWh/100 km including charging losses and 6.89 kWh/100 km without them. The reported average speed was 67.72 km/h, about 42.1 mph.

The same result in US units
We convert kilometers to miles using exactly 1.609344 kilometers per mile. Multiply a kWh/100 km figure by 1.609344 to express the energy over 100 miles. This changes the unit, not the test or its reliability.

Why the boundary matters to your bill
Consider an illustrative electricity price of $0.20/kWh. Using the unrounded converted figures gives about $2.42 per 100 miles including charging losses, versus $2.22 without them. The price is an assumption, not a current utility or public-charging offer. The roughly 20-cent difference comes only from the energy boundary.
This is an arithmetic example, not a prediction for your vehicle. To budget for home charging, match the energy measurement to what your utility bills. For public charging, also check the actual station price and any session, parking or membership fees.
What a US buyer can take from it
Our assessment: the useful lesson is to compare measurements before comparing headline numbers. An average over one route does not establish steady highway consumption, winter performance or charging behavior for a production car.
For a purchase decision, start with the exact US-market vehicle and its documented efficiency rating. Then look for independent tests with disclosed speed, weather and charging-loss treatment. The concept announcement alone leaves those buying questions unanswered.
