US release date and price: the current position

The SkyNomad N90 Max Studio is a China-market Xiaomi SUV, not a vehicle with a confirmed US retail launch in the official sources we reviewed. As of September 16, 2026, we found no US order opening, delivery schedule or manufacturer-suggested retail price. Xiaomi's global site announces Europe in 2027; that is not a US launch announcement, and it does not identify a European launch date for this specific trim either.

For a buyer, three separate milestones matter: the product exists, a manufacturer announces it for your market, and you can order an appropriately specified vehicle with local support. The first milestone does not establish the other two. A video, a converted price or an export listing should not be treated as a substitute.

What makes the Studio interesting

Xiaomi lists the five-seat Studio at RMB 299,900 in China. Its distinguishing feature is an electrically lifting roof. The manufacturer restricts roof use to parking off public roads and warns against using it in rain or snow. The Chinese model is labeled N90 Max 探索版; TechNode corrected its English naming to Studio Edition.

That makes the concept worth assessing as a flexible place to spend time after a drive, rather than judging it only by the roof mechanism. A useful hands-on review would check setup effort, usable room with luggage aboard, ventilation and the closed-roof fallback in bad weather. We have not driven this vehicle or tested its camping functions.

US availability faces more than a price or tariff question

The Bureau of Industry and Security's connected-vehicle rule restricts specified transactions involving Chinese- or Russian-linked vehicle connectivity and automated-driving technology. Its restrictions on covered software and on sales by connected-vehicle manufacturers with the relevant China or Russia nexus begin with Model Year 2027. BIS states that the manufacturer restriction can apply even when the vehicle is made in the United States.

These are model-year provisions, not a claim that every restriction starts on January 1, 2027. Their application, scope and any authorization need to be resolved for an actual transaction. We have not verified an authorization for this model. Our conclusion is narrower than a blanket prediction: do not infer a viable US launch simply by adding shipping and taxes to a Chinese price.

A private import is not an automatic workaround

NHTSA explains that a vehicle under 25 years old which was not built and certified to applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards generally cannot be permanently imported unless the agency determines it eligible. A nonconforming vehicle ordinarily also needs the appropriate Registered Importer process. A seller's willingness to ship is not evidence that these requirements have been met.

That safety-import framework does not settle every other federal or state requirement, and it does not replace the connected-vehicle analysis. Before paying an exporter, ask for the exact vehicle identity and written evidence of the applicable compliance route. A promised future conversion is materially different from a documented eligible vehicle. We are not presenting an import service or a verified import pathway for the Studio.

How to judge future range and ownership claims

The China product page quotes CLTC figures, not EPA-rated range. Its combined-range claim includes the gasoline range extender; it is not an all-electric distance. We do not turn those figures into an invented EPA estimate or US road-test result.

For a future US offer, compare the electric driving range, gasoline operation and parked energy use separately. Then check the actual charging inlet, network support, app region, repair arrangements and warranty terms of that version. A familiar-looking connector or a generic adapter listing would not establish vehicle compatibility.

Should a US buyer wait for it?

If a camper-capable daily vehicle is needed for a fixed trip or replacement date, an unannounced US product is a poor planning anchor. Compare locally supported options against your real needs: passenger space, overnight setup, weather protection, energy use and service access. If the purchase is optional, the Studio can remain a watchlist item without a deposit.

A meaningful next announcement would identify a US-spec vehicle, compliance route, responsible sales and service organization, price and delivery window. Until then, an appealing China-market design remains an interesting product story, not a US buying recommendation. This is a source review dated September 16, 2026, not a hands-on test or an automatic launch alert.
